Intentional Pearls

coffer-281251_640One day, a tiny particle makes its way into an oyster shell, and it literally “gets under the oyster’s skin.” It’s rough against the oyster’s smooth flesh, and irritating in every way.

So the oyster begins to overlay the particle with its own tissue. And as days turn into weeks and months and years, the irritating particle becomes a beautiful, non-irritating object of value: an iridescent pearl.

When irritants are introduced in my life, what do I do about them? Do I let them irritate, constantly rubbing me the wrong way? Or do I take proactive steps to use those irritating times for good, actively seeking to use them to honor God?

After all, pearls don’t come about all on their own. They are purposefully created: intentional pearls.

  1. That is so true! I definitely don’t tend to look at the irritants in my life as potential pearls! I think of Joseph, that what was intended for evil in his life, God turned into good. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom.8:28. Great reminder!

  2. Amen Alisa. All of the irritants in life are challenges that can make us better people. The Lord will always use them for good in our lives when we trust Him. Love you…
